The hottest new celebrity accessory isn't what most would imagine.. a Prada tote? No.. Gucci sunglasses? Wrong again.. a Roberto Cavalli dress for the Oscars? Hmm, not quite. So what is this new accessory and where can it be bought? First off it can't be bought.. WHAT? Yeah, it can't technically be bought..
It seems that every page one turns in a Celebrity magazine has an A-List star carrying a foreign child. Don't get me wrong, adopting a child is a beautiful thing. Adopting a child from an underprivileged country is an even more beautiful thing. However, this trend in which adopting a child from a third world country as an 'in' thing to do is by all means absurd.
Angelina Jolie, the woman with less than enough hands to hold all of her children began this trend a few years ago when she adopted the adorable Maddox from his native Cambodia. At the time, her desire for a child seemed a selfless act, although, her main reason for adoption was due to the fact that she didn't think her genes were suitable for procreating the species. Hmm.. her motives aside she offered this boy a life of privilege that he could never have enjoyed in his orphanage. However, she didn't stop there, she and her partner Brad Pitt have since adopted two more children Zahara from native Africa and Pax from his native Vietnam and of course the genetically, seemingly perfect Shiloh (poor Shiloh, commonly refered to as 'the blob' by Angelina is the outcast and is rarely seen with either parent, guess she doesn't have solid roots..). Guess her genes have miraculously changed and deemed appropriate for reproduction. Oh and not to mention the fact that she's pregnant again, allegedly with twins and has plans for her fourth adoption before the end of the year. It seems now that she and Brad are running a circus in their house, but that's there choice.
Furthermore, Angelina and Brad's quest for the largest family have prompted other A-Listers to do the same; Madonna and the adoption of her son from Africa, Meg Ryan's adoption of her daughter Daisy from China and the list goes on.. It seems you are nobody until you are seen carrying your very own child born in a different country. It seems as though most of these celebrities are making a mockery of the adoption process. What about the millions of children in orphanages and child services in the United States? Do they not fit the bill? Sadly, as with most issues, Americans look outside of their own countries problems to fix the problems of the world. Instead of picking and choosing, we should help all causes, not causes that seem to offer the best accessories..
