Her Unmatched Memory a Blessing, Curse

I came across this article Her Unmatched Memory a Blessing, Curse on AOL.com and I am so fascinated by this woman.  Though I think my memory can stand to be a bit better, it seems this woman is literally haunted by her memories.  I would never think that remembering would be such a problem, or that it was humanly possible to rememebr as much as she does.  Either way, this finding is insane.  This is a must read article!

Big Love

20080421202709990015 I came across quite an interesting article today, on AOL.com.  This article pertained to the fashion of polygamists in Texas and its influence over fashion elsewhere.  The article was so interesting, however this  part fascinated me most: "The women never cut their hair because they believe they will use it to wash Christ's feet during the Second Coming, Bennion says. A biblical quote says a woman's hair should be her crowning glory."

Clear Ice Cubes..

Looking for a way to make your ice cubes crystal clear instead of cloudy?

ice cubes

You ever notice that when you make ice cubes in your freezer they usually come out all cloudy? The reason? You're using cold water.

That's right, according to James Peterson's excellent book What's A Cook To Do?, if you want your ice cubes to come out more clear, use hot water from the tap. Most of the cloudiness comes from air that's in the water. If you use hot water, there's less air in there. Not sure why this is, it has to do with "science."

Now, about the way those ice cubes sometimes smell...well, that has to do with what you store in the freezer.

Go Bananas! Part 2

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In

Thailand

, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD):Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural moodenhancertryptophan.

Smoking & Tobacco Use:Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates yourbody'swater balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can bere-balancedwith the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Go Bananas!

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit.

It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts intoserotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitaminB6it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the

US

Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at aTwickenham(Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in

Austria

found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snackin gon high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Woman 'Can Do' on Leap Year

I recently found out that Leap Day is the one day of the year in which it is considered acceptable for a woman to propose to a man.  Though, nowadays most argue that women can do what they want without judgement, most women expect a man to propose to them.  On Leap Day, commonly refered to as Bachelor's Day, it was considered acceptable for a woman to break traditional norms of marriage engagment practices to propose to a man.  If a man refused a marriage offer from a woman he was expected to pay a penalty, such as a gown or money.  This tradition's origin stemmed from an old, Irish tale in reference to Saint Bridget's deal with Saint Patrick, which allowed women to propose to men every four years.  It is argued that this tradition was probably started to balance the traditional societal roles of men and women in the same way that the leap day balances the calendar.

Other Interesting Leap Day Facts

  • It is considered unlucky for someone to be born on a leap day in Scotland.
  • It is considered unlucky for couple to marry on a leap year, especially on a leap day in Greece.
  • Some people born on February 29 prefer to celebrate their birthday on February 28 in a non-leap year because they were born in February, while others celebrate their birthday on March 1 because they do not officially turn next age on February 28. There are also those who only celebrate their birthday every leap year because they believe there is no substitute to a February 29 birthday.
  • In some cases, their legal birthdays depend on the rules and regulations of where they live. Many countries make amendments for those born on leap days so they can be considered eligible for marriage, driving and other activities that require a legal age. For example, each state or territory administers driver’s licenses in the United States. In South Carolina, one man received an extended driver’s license because February 29 was not in the calendar in a non-leap year. However in Maryland, one person waited for six months to get the driver’s license because the computer database did not recognize the February 29 birth date.
  • Some members of the Honor Society of Leap Year Day Babies do not have the February 29 birth date on their driver’s licenses because their government agencies gave them a choice of only February 28 or March 1 as their license expiration date.

'Pricasso' Wants His Art to Get Inside You

77106122 I recently came across an interesting article 'Pricasso' Wants His Art to Get Inside You featured on Asylum.com that discusses Australia's artist Tim Patch.  According to the article, Patch's art is unique for it's err..brush stroke and form.  In short, well hopefully not..Patch uses his penis as his paint brush.  Yes..his penis.  According to the article, Patch's artwork has caught the interest of many in Australia and for this reason is in the running to win top honors in the country's annual art awards competition.  Also according to the article, "the artist's nude self-portrait is currently vying for the Archibald Prize."  Though, this is good news for Patch, the downside of painting with one's penis is the fact that Patch has complained of soreness and tiredness as a result of producing several paintings recently.
